Frequently asked questions

How is income tax calculated in Pakistan?
Income tax is progressive: your taxable income is split into slabs, and each slab is taxed at its own rate. We total the tax across all slabs, apply any surcharge or super tax for high earners, subtract tax credits, and compare the result with tax already deducted to show a refund or an amount payable.
What is the tax-free income threshold?
For salaried individuals, annual income up to the first slab’s upper limit is taxed at 0%. The calculator uses the exact threshold from the relevant Finance Act for the tax year you select, so the tax-free amount is reflected automatically.
Does the calculator include the surcharge on high incomes?
Yes. When taxable income exceeds Rs 10 million, a surcharge (9% for salaried, 10% for non-salaried) is applied on the computed tax and shown as a separate line in the breakdown.
Are these figures official?
No. Filer.pk is not affiliated with the FBR and these are estimates for guidance only. Always verify with FBR/IRIS or a qualified tax professional before filing.
